Evelyn L. Snowman
Evelyn Louise Snowman was born Feb. 5, 1927 to Luise (Wohlfahrt) Snowman and Austin Snowman of Cape Newagen. Evelyn passed peacefully at home on Jan. 12, 2022, her granddaughter and long-term caregiver Lisa by her side.
Evelyn grew up on Southport Island where she enjoyed all it had to offer; a lifelong lover of the rockbound coast, animals and favored forest trails. Evelyn enjoyed boating, rock hounding, berry picking, genealogy, history, and was an avid gardener and storyteller. Evelyn attended Southport school and graduated in the Boothbay Harbor High School class of 1944.
Evelyn said of Southport: “Everything’s better when you cross this bridge, you can feel it,” each time she returned to the island.
Evelyn was a bookkeeper for many area businesses. A source of pride was her work with Pine Tree Conservation. She eventually obtained her real estate license, operating her own successful business for better than 50-plus years, and making many lifelong friends in the process.
Evelyn continued working until she was just shy of her 93rd year, managing various commercial property rentals in downtown Boothbay Harbor. She cherished her friends near and far, and continued her correspondence with them daily.
Evelyn was predeceased by her children, Louise “Suzi” Farrin and Austin “Jack” Waite.
She is survived by son David Waite, and by grandchildren Lisa, Jason, Stephanie, Eric, Jasmine, and their families; special cousin Beverly Tibbetts; Pennsylvania kids Diane and Jerry Joyce; and many loving friends, neighbors and business associates. She is also survived by her beloved cat, Black Black.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Evelyn’s memory to Meals on Wheels, 82 Oak St., Boothbay Harbor, ME 04538, Attn. Peggy Peters or Midcoast Humane Society, 190 Pleasant St., Brunswick, ME 04011, Attn. Emily.
A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
