Experience the National Theatre Live
Lincoln Theater in Damariscotta anounces two new Broadcast Live from the National Theatre in London productions: Shakespeare’s “As You Like It” on Thursday, Feb. 25, and Martin McDonagh’s “Hangmen” on Thursday, March 3. Both will be broadcast live from London at 2 p.m. and rebroadcast at 7 p.m.
“As You Like It” is a high quality, feel-good Shakespeare comedy with a light-hearted story, plenty of romance and Shakespearean wit — the perfect winter pick-me-up.
This production has fresh, contemporary staging, is in modern dress, and has stunning scenery, making it a very accessible Shakespeare piece. Its young and dynamic cast, which includes live singing from a 10-piece choir, make this an ideal introduction to Shakespeare for younger and family audiences.
Following a sell-out run at London’s Royal Court Theatre, Olivier and Academy Award® winner Martin McDonagh (“The Pillowman,” “The Cripple of Inishmaan,” “In Bruges”) returns to the West End with Matthew Dunster’s award-winning production of his deeply funny new play, “Hangmen.”
In his small pub in the northern English town of Oldham, Harry is something of a local celebrity. But what's the second-best hangman in England to do on the day they've abolished hanging? Amongst the cub reporters and pub regulars dying to hear Harry’s reaction to the news, his old assistant Syd, and the peculiar Mooney, lurk with very different motives for their visit.
These two very different shows are a great introduction to the diversity of performances provided by the National Theater. Though each live broadcast is filmed in front of a live audience in the theatre, cameras are carefully positioned throughout the auditorium to ensure that cinema audiences get the 'best seat in the house' view of each production. Where these cameras are placed is different for each broadcast, to make sure that cinema audiences enjoy the best possible experience every time. Satellites allow the productions to be broadcast live, without delay.
Tickets are $15/adults, $13/theater members, $5/youth age 18 and under, and can be purchased in advance by calling 207-563-3424 during office hours (Tuesday-Friday 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.) or at the door an hour prior to the performance.
