Experience the New York City Ballet in ‘The Nutcracker’
Experience the wonder of New York City Ballet’s iconic holiday classic on the big screen at Damariscotta’s Lincoln Theater on Sunday, Dec. 16 at 2 p.m. In George Balanchine’s “The Nutcracker™”, Tchaikovsky’s beloved melodies transport the young and young at heart to a magical world where mischievous mice besiege a battalion of toy soldiers, and an onstage blizzard leads to an enchanted Land of Sweets. Balanchine’s stunning choreography shines amidst awe-inspiring set pieces, ornate costumes, and grand one-of-a-kind visual effects, like the one-ton Christmas tree that grows to an astonishing 40 feet.
This holiday screening marks the first of four “Lincoln Center at the Movies: Great American Dance” programs that will be shown at Lincoln Theater on various Sundays at 2 PM. The others include Ballet Hispanico’s “Carmen.maquia and Club Havana” on Jan. 13, 2019 San Francisco Ballet’s “Romeo and Juliet” on Feb. 10, and the Alvin Ailey Dance Theater’s “Chroma, Grace, Takademe, Revelations: on March 10.
Tickets, $20 adult/$18 for theater members, $5 for youth, are available in advance through the theater office at 563-3424 or starting at 1 p.m. on the day of the show.
