Fairy house construction completed
A Wiscasset Primary School community of retired teachers, parents, and second grade students joined forces in the art room, on May 11 and 13 to construct fairy houses. The structures were made from natural materials gathered by students, parents, and adult helpers, last fall and as soon as the snow left, this spring.
The 40-plus WPS second graders have been anticipating, with much enthusiasm, the opportunity to build 3-D models of their 2-D fairy house designs. Their blueprints were conceived in art classes during the winter months.
Art teacher Donna Barnes rallied eight retired Wiscasset teachers into volunteer service for this project: Mrs. Gray, Mrs. O’Connell, Mrs. Barker, Mrs. Flanagan, Mrs. Baston, Mrs. Joslyn, Mrs. Johnson and Mrs. Abbott. Three parents volunteered as well, Ms. Wood, Mrs. Thiboutot and Mrs. Lincoln). Each pair of students was assigned an adult helper. Adult student helpers assisted each of their assigned architects with glue guns in hand. The art room was abuzz with conversation and material acquisition during this two-hour special project event.
The finished structures are proudly displayed on tables positioned by homeroom, in the hallway between the art and music rooms at the Primary School. They are spectacular!
A reception for the architects and their families is being planned and will be announced in a separate invitation.
If you, as part of the greater Wiscasset community would like to see these magnificent fairy house forms, feel free to drop by the WPS office for a pass and enjoy the exhibit.
