With backpacks and many with smiles, Wiscasset Elementary School students arrived to start school Tuesday, Sept. 3. They, families and school faculty and staff got a sunny morning in the mid-50’s F to come back together.
“I missed you so much!” fourth grade teacher Becky Hallowell told incoming fifth grader Patience Davis as they hugged outside the school at drop off time.
Hallowell said, three decades in, she gets that excited every first day of school. The night before this first day of school, she was redoing part of a lesson plan to make it as good as possible, she said as students continued arriving. The 2024 Lincoln County Teacher of the Year, now a finalist for Maine Teacher of the Year, then resumed greeting and hugging students.
