First National Bank donates to Help Yourself Shelf food pantry
First National Bank recently announced that it has made donations totaling $14,000 to seventeen food banks in bank’s market area. “First National Bank is grateful for the critical services that our food banks provide to our neighbors in need,” remarked Tony C. McKim, president and CEO. “As a Maine community bank, it is our goal to respond to the needs of these vital organizations that serve and help these families put food on the table.”
Help Yourself Shelf, located at St. Philip’s Episcopal Church, was a recipient of these funds. Help Yourself Shelf has special meaning to one First National Bank employee, Jean Moffatt. Jean, a Banking Associate in the Wiscasset branch, is the daughter of Linda Young, one of the founders of the food pantry, who passed away in July of 2015. Linda volunteered at the Help Yourself Shelf for fifteen years. Jean says her mom used to say, “I learned to give, not because I have too much, but because I know how it feels to have nothing.” First National Bank gives these funds in Linda’s honor.
The pantry is open Thursdays at 5 p.m. For more information, please call 207-882-7184.
