Former CIA Director John Brennan to discuss global challenges in Newcastle
Former CIA Director John Brennan will address the challenges and opportunities facing the United States on Monday, July 29 from 7 to 9 p.m. at St. Patrick’s Church in Newcastle. Michael Putzel, former Associated Press reporter, will moderate the session, which includes audience participation.
During his 34-year government career, Brennan served six presidents, from Jimmy Carter to Barack Obama. He currently serves as senior intelligence and national security analyst for NBC and MSNBC, and advises various private sector companies.
Topics of discussion will include Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the Israel-HAMAS conflict, China's rise, technology's impact, disinformation, and climate change.
Before his government service, Brennan fondly recalls time spent in Old Orchard Beach. Recently, his sister's family has enjoyed vacations in Damariscotta, and he has been a longtime supporter of a Carpenter’s Boat Shop volunteer.
