Free workshop: Making friends with social media
If Facebook were a country, it would be the world's third largest; and yet, for many people, social media can be intimidating. A free workshop for anyone who is timid but curious about how to use social media will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 22, at Skidompha Library in Damariscotta.
From 10 to 11:45 a.m., Erika Hewitt will use the Porter Meeting Hall projector to illustrate every move, providing tips and insight into social media's possibilities and pitfalls. She will discuss online etiquette, ethics and privacy concerns, and the ways social media empowers community-building and social justice.
An active social media user, Hewitt has a history of teaching people how to feel more comfortable and confident on social media. The halftime minister for the Midcoast Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, she encourages attendees to bring their laptop or tablet to follow along. Time permitting, she will provide individual troubleshoot during the last half-hour.
