Fugitive gives chase in Wiscasset, climbs tree, and is later taken into custody on roof
On March 7, at approximately 12:40 p.m., Wiscasset Police Department conducted a traffic stop on Bath Road in Wiscasset. The operator provided a name and date of birth from a temporary Ohio registration to identify himself.
However, a records check by U.S. Border Patrol indicated the individual might be in the country illegally. When questioned, the subject allegedly admitted to being in the country unlawfully. U.S. Border Patrol arrived on the scene within 10 minutes and began speaking with the subject.
Shortly after, the individual allegedly suddenly put the vehicle into gear and fled northbound on Bath Road at high speed. A pursuit ensued, reaching speeds of over 100 mph. The chase ended on Gardiner Road at the rear of a construction site where the subject was later determined to be employed. He allegedly fled on foot into the woods, eventually climbing 20 to 30 feet up a tree. While in the tree, he made statements of self-harm and refused to come down despite prolonged negotiation efforts.
After nearly four hours of attempting to de-escalate the situation, we collaboratively decided to leave the immediate area for safety reasons and obtain a warrant for his arrest. Shortly afterward, a passport found in his vehicle confirmed his real identity. A background check revealed he had a violent criminal history, and two active felony warrants from Ohio for Burglary and Aggravated Burglary.
Law enforcement officers returned to the construction site and tracked him back to the building. Due to the complexity of the 140,000 square-foot site, containing 104 one- and two-bedroom units under construction without power, locating the suspect proved challenging. K-9 units picked up his trail leading to an attic area, where he was encountered multiple times. At one point, he armed himself with a hammer and later fell through a ceiling, but each time, he managed to evade arrest. His familiarity with the building, having worked there, provided him an advantage.
After a 4.5-hour search, officers successfully contained Renan Modesto Noralez Dolmo to the exterior roof, where he was taken into custody. He was transported to Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset and charged with: Fugitive from Justice, Providing False Name and Date of Birth, Refusing to Submit to Arrest and/or Detention, Eluding, Criminal Speed, Driving to Endanger, and Operating Without a License.
This arrest was the result of a coordinated effort by multiple agencies. Wiscasset Police Department was assisted by Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office (K-9), Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office (K-9), Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office (K-9), Maine Warden Service, U.S. Border Patrol, and the Maine State Police. We would like to express our sincerest gratitude and appreciation to all agencies involved. This was a collaborative effort that could not have been accomplished without the dedication and teamwork in bringing this situation to a safe resolution.
