Gardening, computer and more at Adult Ed
Boothbay Region Adult Ed has classes where you can learn to live a healthier lifestyle, improve computer skills, and grow your own organic garden.
Is your son or daughter planning to babysit this summer? Babysitter Training will teach them the skills necessary to safely and responsibly give care for children and infants. They will receive hands-on practice, training in first aid, how to deal with an emergency, and receive a training handbook they can refer to. The course is on Wednesdays, March 30 and April 6 at Boothbay Region Elementary School from 2 to 5 p.m. The fee is $60. (students must be at least age 11).
If you want to learn more about healthy aging come to a one evening talk and discussion, Healthy Habits for a Healthier You on Tuesday, April 5. Lifestyle choices can help keep your body and brain healthy. Learn about diet and nutrition, exercise, cognitive activity and social engagement. The time is 6:30-8 p.m. and the cost is $10.
Essential Word on April 5, 7, and 12 will teach you the basics you need to know about Microsoft Word 2010. Create office and personal documents. Learn to save documents, set margins, tabs, change font styles, sizes, and select a page layout. We will explore a variety of functions including: tool and menu bars, manipulating text, and paragraph formatting. The time is 6-8 p.m. and the fee is $38.
Are you concerned about the rising cost of food? Learn to grow your own vegetables in a sustainable manner in Grow Your Own Organic Garden, a one evening presentation by the Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association. Topics include: the basics of soil science, enriching your soil to produce healthy, high-yielding plants, composting, insect control, and more. The date is Wednesday, April 6 from 6-9 p.m.. Registration fee paid to Adult Ed is $5, and $5 to the instructor on class night.
