Boothbay Harbor’s Opera House has been a looming feature downtown for more than a century.

While it stood empty for several years, this year the nonprofit organization is celebrating 10 years of renewed life in the historic building. The year round schedule of concerts and events, in combination with financial support from members, donors and sponsors, has rejuvenated the old Midcoast performance hall inside and out.

It is now a coveted stop for touring Nashville-based musicians, Grammy winners and regional talents.

While the old building has come back to life, there are some who say it has never lacked for an audience. Over the years paranormal investigators have frequently visited the Opera House and walked away with evidence that there is more to the Opera House than meets the eye.

In recognition of the many spirits who may walk the aisles and stairwells, the 2014 Haunted New England calendar features the Opera House as its April image and story.

The calendar is the work of author Jeff Belanger, one of America’s most active paranormal researchers, in collaboration with photographer Frank Grace.

Belanger is the author of more than a dozen books on the paranormal. He is the founder of www.ghostvillage.com, the Web’s most popular paranormal destination according to statistics from Google.com.

Belanger writes for the Boston Globe and is the series writer for “Ghost Adventures” on the Travel Channel. He’s appeared on The History Channel, PBS, CBS Sunday Morning, the BBC, and NPR, among others.

Photographer Frank Grace has been a finalist for Ron Howard’s “Project Imagination” for the last two years and “loves all things ghostly and haunted.”

Belanger and Grace came to the Opera House early in 2013 to research and photograph the historic structure.
