Gold/Smith’s season opener: Tuscany’s Estruscan Empire
Beginning May 22 through June 24, Gold/Smith Gallery will be exhibiting paintings of the Etruscan kingdom in Tuscany, Italy by Ivano Balluchi. Balluchi lived and worked in his home city of Livorno exploring and painting his experiences in tempera on wood panels until he died in 2021.
He painted a landscape full of ghosts. In his case familiarity doesn’t breed contempt but discovers mysteries. There are no figures in the paintings but are they suffused with human presences by a region that has been populated for thousands of years.
This ancient kingdom of Tuscany’s Estruscan Empire is now on display at Gold/Smith Gallery, 8 McKown St., Boothbay Harbor through June 24.
The gallery will host a reception for First Friday on June 7 from 5 to 7 p.m.
Gold/Smith Gallery is open Tuesday through Saturday 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sundays noon-5 p.m. For more information the gallery can be reached at 207-633-6252 or www.goldsmithgallery.net
