Everyone is invited to join the volunteer staff and friends of the Skidompha Secondhand Book Shop as they celebrate the grand opening of their new shop, with a half-price sale on everything, on Saturday, March 25. 

The celebration at the new, waterfront location, 17 Backstreet Landing, Damariscotta, will take place during the shop’s normal hours, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

According to Rosie Bensen, co-manager of the shop, “We’ve been very busy since we opened on Feb. 1. Most of our regular customers have come in to see our beautiful new space, and we’ve had many new customers, too. Our half-price sale celebration is our way of thanking people for their support, and also a way to encourage people who haven’t seen the shop to join us. Stop in, have some refreshments, meet our volunteers, peruse the shelves, and enjoy our gorgeous river views.”

She added that donors have been generous with book donations, so there are always new books on the shelves, with twice as much room to display them as in the former location.

The book shop is managed and staffed entirely by volunteers, and is a major source of income for Skidompha Public Library. It is open Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and on Thursdays until 7. Donations are accepted whenever the shop is open.

Backstreet Landing is behind Elm Street Plaza, which is across the street from the library’s back door.
