Haggett building’s demolition starts Tuesday, Sept. 4
Demolition of the Haggett building on Wiscasset’s Water Street starts Tuesday, Sept. 4, Maine Department of Transportation’s latest update on the agency’s downtown project states.
Thursday’s email release states the contractor will salvage for preservation the sign on the building’s front. “Demolition will begin after removal of the sign and will be completed by Sunday,” Sept. 9, it states.
The project has called for the property to become parking.
The update also notes Water Street, Railroad Avenue and the parking lot have been paved, and granite curb has been placed along Water Street. “The contractor will be placing bituminous curb along the right and left sides of Railroad Avenue. Construction of the retaining wall is scheduled to begin on Thursday, (Aug. 30) and last for a week and a half. Sidewalks on Railroad Avenue and Water Street will be constructed and graded in preparation for paving, which will also take approximately a week and a half.”
