Halloween-themed trunks line grange lot for treat-getters
From a guitar-playing ghoul in the back of the Grand Caravan Charlotte Simmons decorated, to James Crawson’s Halloween Plinko game for dropping chips over a jack o’ lantern smile and down into slots to win candy, Halloween was in the windy, cold air at Wiscasset's Huntoon Hill Grange 398 Sunday afternoon.
An overseer of the grange, Milton Dersham, said he was very pleased with the turnout for its first-time trunk or treat event.
Vehicles decorated in, out, or both, lined the lot. Families parked along Huntoon Hill Road and walked with their bundled children, some costumed, to the lot and made the rounds collecting candy and other goodies.
Simmons gave out some stuffed animals and other items to add to attendees' choices. Asked about her array of decorations, she said she bought them at 90 percent off a couple of years ago. She and others who turned out for the trick or treaters said it was fun. Many were bundled in layers. Some had their children's or grandchildren's help in the giveaways and displays.
On its Facebook page later, the grange thanked participants and looked forward to next year’s event.
