Hawke hosts ‘Meet and Greet’ re-election campaign event
State Representative Stephanie Hawke hosted a Meet and Greet at the the Board Room in Boothbay Harbor on Wednesday, Aug. 29. Over 50 people attended the informal gathering to offer support and share stories of Stephanie’s hard work and accomplishments. Hawke spoke on a range of topics and offered why she is seeking a third term. “I have spent my life here. The voters in District 89 are my friends and neighbors. I feel a sense of responsibility to ensure that their voices are heard and I am privileged to have the opportunity to represent their interests in Augusta.”
Lincoln County’s District Attorney, Jon Liberman was in attendance and spoke of his gratitude to Stephanie for her volunteer efforts at the American Legion and her legislative efforts to drive support for solving the opioid crisis that is plaguing our area, the state and other parts of the country. Liberman said that this was a top priority of his and he is working hard to help solve this problem. Jon was quick to point out that treatment was only one piece of the puzzle and seasoned legislators, like Hawke, understood this.
Hawke was asked about the availability of taxpayer election money for her campaign. She is adamant that she would not accept Maine taxpayer’s money to fund for her campaign. Hawke said, “It just isn’t right taking people’s money without their consent.” Hawke kicks off her re-election efforts with $800 from her last successful campaign while her opponent has $15,000 of taxpayer funding. Hawke said “I am a fiscal conservative. I am a business owner and I know how tough it is to earn a dollar. We must use State funds wisely and I do not support taxpayers funding election coffers. I will raise money for my campaign the old fashioned way, one voter at a time.”
Hawke said the “Meet and Greet” was very successful and has plans for more across the district leading to the Nov. 6 election. “I urge everyone to come to these sessions and ask questions, learn what is being done with your tax money and, most of all, provide your support for me in the November 6 election.”
