Holy Trinity Boys Choir performs in Newcastle
Les Petits Chanteurs (The Little Singers), the renowned boys’ choir from the Holy Trinity Music School of Port-au-Prince, Haiti, will perform at the Second Congregational Church in Newcastle on Saturday, Sept. 28 at 5 pm. The concert is free of charge. A freewill offering will be gathered to help with rebuilding the Holy Trinity Music School as well as help defray tour expenses.
Les Petits Chanteurs is a select group of 30 singers, ages 8 to the early 20’s, who will be accompanied by a seven-piece instrumental ensemble. The choir has toured the United States 13 times and was last in Damariscotta/Newcastle in 2010. This year’s tour covers 22 American cities and towns on the East Coast (from Norfolk, Virginia to Newcastle, Maine) as well as on the West Coast (San Francisco Bay Area).
Holy Trinity Music School is the only one of its kind in Haiti. It carries out a mission of education and music training for children and young adults. The Holy Trinity Cathedral complex in Port-au-Prince was completely destroyed by the devastating 2010 earthquake.
Prior to the disaster, 1,000 students attended the cathedral’s music school. The choir tour is designed not only to focus awareness on the rich classical music traditions of Haiti, but also to support the rebuilding of the school itself.
