Hope Haitian Choir coming to the Boothbay region
Hope Haitian Choir is a group of 15 children who love to sing and dance! They are energetic, enthusiastic, and excited about sharing their message of HOPE, in the Boothbay region as well as in other locations down the eastern part of the U.S.
The children and their chaperones arrived this week from Haiti on July 18. They are living in host homes for about a week while they intensely rehearse in preparation for a 25+ concert tour from Maine to South Carolina. Barb House directs the choir and has made several trips to Haiti to select and work with the children. The kids sing in English, Creole and French and the songs are a mix of originals and familiar. The purpose of this effort is to afford these young people an opportunity to share that there is hope in Haiti despite the conditions of living there. It also helps the kids develop their potential so that they can make a positive impact on the world in which they live.
The Choir, in a way, is the face of Hope Haitian Ministries, whose mission is to speak hope to America through the faith testimonies of the children, and give hope to Haiti through spiritual development and by practically helping them with education, food, water, medical care and other basic needs. With the help of many individuals and businesses in Maine, School of Hope opened this past fall, offering education and food for kindergarten and pre-kindergarten students in the village of Lamarre, Haiti, where Barb and Chuck House’s Haitian son was born. That school is planning to add another building as well as three more classes this coming year.
There are three opportunities to see the choir in the Boothbay Region: July 23 at 11a.m. at the Wiscasset Nazarene Church, July 23 at 6:30p.m. at the Boothbay Baptist Church, and July 26 at 7p.m. at the East Boothbay Methodist Church. People will have an opportunity to share monetarily at the concerts to benefit projects in Haiti, provide for the tour, and maybe help to sponsor a child in Lamarre.
