Indiana man charged with exploitation of Dresden teen
An Indiana man has been arrested on a warrant from Lincoln County alleging he sexually exploited a minor from Dresden.
Danny Douglas, 47, of Thornton, Indiana has been arrested in that state on a warrant from the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office on Class B charges of sexual exploitation of a minor.
Douglas is alleged to have posed as a minor to extract nude pictures from a 17-year-old girl.
On April 24, the victim's mother is alleged to have found “disturbing” text messages on the teen's phone; she contacted the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office soon thereafter and Detective Scott Hayden begin the investigation.
It was stated in Hayden's report that the victim has “intellectual and cognitive disabilities,” and the victim's mother believed someone was trying to take advantage of her.
The teen is alleged to have met Douglas in an online chat room, and Douglas is alleged to have sent a Facebook friend request to the girl.
Soon, according to court records, the pair began Facebook messaging and texting back and forth. The girl's mother reported contacted the phone company, which replied that there had allegedly been almost 1,300 texts between the Douglas and the girl.
Douglas was reportedly listed as “Bad Boy Dan <3” in the victim's phone, and she believed that he was a 17-year-old boy from Maine, according to court documents. Hayden asked the girl if she had sent any photos, to which she replied that she had.
Hayden reportedly found nude photo messages sent to the girl from a number purported to be Douglas'.
Hayden was then able to execute a search warrant on the victim's phone and Facebook profile and a cellphone with a 765 area code, which was linked to the text messages that were sent back and forth.
Upon further investigation, Hayden found that the 765 number was linked to a temporary cell phone in Indiana, but there was no name attached to it. Hayden was able to find other numbers that the cell phone user dialed, and eventually called a business in Indiana.
The man who picked up reportedly told Hayden that the owner of the phone was Danny Douglas.
Hayden tried another number that the phone had called several times. The woman who answered reportedly said the phone belonged to Danny Richardson, who had reportedly dated the woman's daughter when she was in her late teens.
The man who the woman said was Dan Richardson was reportedly in his 40s when he dated the woman's daughter, and he called from time-to-time to see how she was doing, according to reports.
Both the woman, and the man were able to report that “Dan” lived in Thorntown, Indiana. Soon afterwards, Hayden contacted Detective Jon Pirics with the Indiana State Police, and the two began working together.
In August, Pirics spoke with Douglas, who allegedly admitted to chatting online with a 17-year-old girl and to making the fake Facebook profile. Douglas also allegedly admitted to receiving the photos on his phone. Pirics also showed Douglas a chat transcript, and Douglas reportedly recognized it.
However, when Pirics searched Douglas' phone he didn't find the victim's number, or any of the text messages or photos. Because it was a temporary phone, it did not have a SIM card, either, Hayden writes.
When Hayden searched the victim's phone, he found a nude photo she had reportedly sent to Douglas, and the girl admitted to sending the photo April 23.
A warrant for Douglas' arrest was issued Sept. 10, and Douglas was arrested Sept. 15 in Indiana.
If convicted, Douglas could face up to 20 years in prison and or a $50,000 fine, as sexual exploitation is a Class B crime.
