Inga R. Grossman
Inga Ruth Grossman, 57, formerly of Boothbay Harbor and Kent, Ohio, died Aug. 30, 2019 in Cleveland, Ohio after a long battle with lung cancer.
She was a skilled sailor and talented artist who spent many summers living and working in Boothbay Harbor.
Inga was born on Jan. 9, 1962, in Cleveland to parents Morton and Elaine “Chris” Grossman. She grew up an intensely creative child, drawing incessantly and building elaborate environments for her handmade dolls.
Her early years at YMCA day camp and the junior sailing program at the BHYC fostered a lifelong love of sailing. She later excelled at Boothbay one-design races among fierce competition.
She attended the University School and Theodore Roosevelt High School in Kent, Ohio. She enrolled at the college of Wooster, but ultimately transferred, graduating from Kent State University with a degree in art. Opinionated, acerbic, and deeply funny, Inga became a beloved part of the northeastern Ohio art and music community.
Inga is survived by her mother, Elaine Grossman of Cleveland, Ohio; brothers, Neil Grossman of Richmond, California and Philip Qubain of Taos, New Mexico; and nieces Allison Carlson Qubain of Seattle, Washington and Claire Qubain of Bozeman, Montana.
A celebration of life is being planned for the Cleveland area in the coming weeks, with another to be held in Boothbay Harbor in the summer of 2020. Questions about celebration details and messages for the family can be sent to i_grossman@icloud.com
