The Inn at Cuckolds Lighthouse introduces its keepers
Dan and Barbara Aube, a couple with long ties to Maine and a shared love of the sea, have been selected as resident keepers of the Inn at Cuckolds Lighthouse and the recently restored light station.
The Aubes will live on Cuckolds Island during the summer to provide warm hospitality to island visitors and overnight guests at the inn, which opens on June 27.
Dan Aube, a retired Naval officer, nuclear engineer, and graduate of Maine Maritime Academy, was born and raised in Old Orchard Beach. He currently holds multiple U.S. Coast Guard licenses, and has been an underwater scuba instructor.
Barbara Aube attended high school in Portland and is a graduate of Boston College. Her impressive business career includes six years as director of human resources at Boston's 400-member law firm, Foley, Hoag and Eliot, and 17 years as director of human resources for the town of Waterford, Conn., and the local board of education.
Both Dan and Barbara Aube hold Merchant Mariner Limited Masters Licenses and American Red Cross First Aid Certification.
“We are delighted that we were able to attract such a special couple to our volunteer team,” said Janet Reingold, spokesperson for the inn. “Their love of cooking, entertaining and meeting new people makes Dan and Barbara ideally suited to help guests feel welcome and pampered during their visit to the Inn at Cuckolds Lighthouse. Even before they are officially in residence, they are helping prepare the Island to receive visitors for the first time in history.”
The Aubes and their people-loving black lab, Sunny, look forward to greeting guests and making their stay at the offshore island and inn a memory for a lifetime.
