Invasive plant tour June 29 in Newcastle
The public is invited to a talk and woodlot tour on Thursday, June 29 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at Lincoln Academy in Newcastle. Catherine Spolarich, invasive plant biologist with the Maine Natural Areas Program, will discuss invasive plant species and how they impact our forests. Additionally, she will have samples of common invasive plants to identify and will offer advice on how landowners can slow the spread of invasives on their own property.
Attendees will see examples of bittersweet, barberry, honeysuckle, and multi-flora rose. Long-time forester, David Schaible, will provide background information about the woodlot and discuss various forest management approaches to reduce the presence of these plants.
