It's a blues-funk New Year's Eve with Biscuit Miller
Boogie your way to 2015 with Biscuit Miller and The Mix at the Trade Winds Motor Inn in Rockland.
The New Year's Eve (Dec. 31) bash is $199 per couple, plus tax. Price includes: room, use of hot tub and pool, dinner from 7-8:30 p.m. (choice of vegetarian lasagna, lobster stew, prime rib or salmon), party favors, champagne toast and a buffet breakfast. The band takes the stage at 9 p.m.
David “Biscuit” Miller, originally from the south side of Chicago, picked up a four-string electric bass at the age of 11. His first band, Clever, was founded in 1982. Miller moved to Minneapolis where Sonny Rogers continued his learning of basic blues.
Miller's life changing moment: a call from blues man Lonnie Brooks asking him to fill in as his bass player for a gig back home in Chicago. At the end of that show, Brooks made Miller a member of his band: The Lonnie Brooks Band.
Miller played with Brooks' band for 10 years playing innumerable venues, including the first Inauguration Ball for President Bill Clinton.
Miller formed The Mix in 2000 and recorded their first CD, “Come Together.” In 2012, Miller received the Blues Music Award for Bassist of the Year.
Miller and The Mix's latest CD is “Blues With A Smile.” The CD is a non-stop spin of fantastic dance music.
Cuts like “Butter On My Biscuits,” is a bluesy funk “love song” with one hell of a guitar solo. Here’s a tease of the chorus: “Put some butter on my biscuits, wear my body down.”
“Walk With Me Babe,” is pure blues joy and “Black Eyed Peas and Cornbread” is funk all the way. You'll be singing the chorus and dancing yourself sweaty.
And, “Blow A Kiss,” is that dreamy R&B vehicle able to transport every couple to “Cloud 9.”
The Mix features:
Dr. Love on drums. The Dr. has opened for and played with Koko Taylor, Phil Guy, Atlantic Star and The Chilites.
Bobby B, a rhythm guitarist, lead and backup vocalist with a background in R&B, gospel, blues and theater. He toured the U.S., playing in The Wiz and Once Upon An Island, among others.
“Southside” Alex Smith started playing guitar at 15 and by the age of 18 was playing professionally. He has played shows with the legendary likes of Buddy Guy, Eddie Shaw, and Carl Weathersby, among others. Southside joined The Mix in 2013.
Biscuit Miller and The Mix is managed by Paul Benjamin, founder and organizer of the annual North Atlantic Blues Festival held in July in Rockland.
