Jefferson man allegedly assaults woman
A man who was arrested in July for allegedly striking and choking a woman has been rearrested after police claim he allegedly assaulted another woman.
Jason Perkins, 30, of Jefferson was arrested by the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office Sunday, Dec. 14 after he allegedly struck a woman while he was on bail conditions for another alleged incident with another woman.
Perkins was originally arrested July 30 after he reportedly choked and struck a woman several times during an argument. At one point it's alleged that Perkins threw the woman across the room and into a table before he “again placed his hands around her neck and choked her” according to the arrest report.
When Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputy Kenneth Hatch arrived, he reportedly saw red marks around the victim's throat. The victim reportedly did not want any medical attention following the alleged assault.
For that alleged assault, Perkins was charged with Class B aggravated assault.
Lincoln County Sheriff's Office Deputy Jared Mitkus and Sgt. Brendan Kane responded Sunday, Dec. 14 to a home in Jefferson for a reported domestic disturbance.
The fight reportedly broke out when the woman confronted Perkins about the previous victim.
According to an affidavit, Perkins allegedly punched the woman. Because his bail conditions stipulated that he not commit any more crimes, Perkins was charged with violating the conditions of his release, which is a Class E misdemeanor.
The Dec. 14 domestic violence assault charge is a Class D crime, which is also a misdemeanor. He pleaded not guilty to both charges. He will have a docket call at Lincoln County Superior Court Feb. 3 at 10:30 a.m. for the felony assault charge. He is scheduled to appear in district court on Jan. 22.
He was ordered to have no direct contact with the second victim, but may contact the first victim electronically.
Class B crimes, such as the aggravated assault charge, carry a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and up to a $20,000 fine. Class D crimes are punishable by up to 364 days in jail and up to a $2,000 fine.
