John H. Moses
On Feb. 5, 2020 John Herrick Moses Jr. passed away peacefully.
He was born March 15, 1939 in New York City, the son of Kay and John Moses, of Pig Cove Road, Southport. John spent his childhood ranging the Andes mountains in Peru and climbing around the rocks on the East Shore of Southport. A graduate of Bowdoin College, where he developed a lifelong passion for the works of Rudolph Steiner and cultivated the growth of Waldorf education, helping to found Waldorf schools in New York, Washington, D.C., as well as being a significant leader in the founding of the Waldorf School in Richmond, Virginia.
He is survived by his son, Christopher; his daughter, Dawn; his grandson, Quinn; his brother, Alfred, of Southport; his sister, the Rev. Margaret Gat, of Sarasota; and by his partner, Terry Gene Shelton, of Farmville, Virginia.
The family will have a memorial service and interment of ashes at All Saints by-the-Sea on Southport during the summer of 2020.
