John Michael Thomas Seitzer show at The First
John Michael Thomas Seitzer is an award winning artist. He continually stretches his artistic “vocabulary” with skillfully rendered paintings in an eclectic range of styles from realism to post-impressionism to abstraction. His work, done in oil, acrylic, watercolor and pastel, often reflects his love for nature and the play of light. Seitzer paints his impression of the play of light on or reflected from an object be it boat, rock, building, tree or human.
“To view all the paintings side by side is a delight for both eyes and mind. Space and time are called into question as you view these works. The canvas represents one spatial plane while the subject matter rests on still another plane the surface of the table. As you view the ‘paintings within paintings’, multiple planes are represented simultaneously on one single picture plane. Just as the seed within each fruit represents the future, the grapefruit paintings, one within the other, represent a painting from the past, seen in the present ‘now’ with the potential of being seen again and again in the future. There are many more intriguing images in this body of work so let your eyes and imagination harvest the ‘Fruits of My Labor’on view at The First.
Seitzer is also an an art educator. He holds a double art major-Bachelor of Fine Arts in painting and ceramics as well as a Bachelor of Science degree in Art Education from Minnesota State University at Mankato.
As an educator, Seitzer has worked with elementary through university level students, presented several Artist Residencies and lectured at Stockwell College in England.
His work has received local, state and regional awards. Seitzer’s paintings are displayed in Georgetown, Guyana and in Bamako, Mali, through Art In The Embassies.
He has been represented in galleries from coast to coast: Los Angeles, CA, Sedona and Scottsdale, AZ, Minneapolis, MN, and Camden. Locally his works are displayed at Studio 53 Fine Art, Boothbay Region Art Foundation and Joy To The Wind Gallery in Boothbay Harbor. His art is also included in many corporate and private collections around the world.
Together with his wife Lynne, who is also an artist, they paint and teach in Boothbay Harbor, Maine. They offer the intention of love, light and peace with you, the viewer, with their expressions of joy through painting.
