John Rutter’s ‘Gloria’ to be performed at First Congregational Church
The First Congregational Church of Wiscasset is pleased to present John Rutter’s “Gloria” during the 10 a.m. Advent service on Dec. 20. Under the direction of Leela Koilpillai, the four-part choir will be accompanied by guest musicians John Foss, trumpet; Roger Whitney, trombone; Mark Fredericks, timpani; and Joyce Moulton, organ.
The “Gloria,” one of John Rutter’s most well-known works, features dramatic fanfares and syncopated rhythms, and is by turns touching and thrilling, alternating soaring vocal lines with contemporary harmonies and catchy rhythms.
A Christmas message by interim minister Susan Craig will be followed by a choral sing. The community is invited to celebrate the Christmas season in Wiscasset’s historic meeting house.
