John A. Soper
John Arthur “Jack” Soper, 83, died unexpectedly April 25, 2017 in Bradenton, Florida. He was the loving husband of Joan (Sylvester) Soper for 60 years.
Jack was born on March 24, 1934 in Attleboro, Massachusetts to the late John and Margaret (Greene) Soper. Raised in Attleboro, Jack fell in love with the town of Wiscasset, Maine, where he would reside and operate a hunting guide business for nearly 50 years. Jack worked in the jewelry industry throughout his career, and was employed by both the L.G. Balfour and Wells Companies in Attleboro. Jack also served the City of Attleboro as an auxiliary police officer for several years. Later, while semi-retired, Jack owned his own successful jewelry company JAS Associates.
Jack was an avid outdoorsman and loved to hunt and fish the woods and tidal and freshwater rivers of Maine. Jack was a life member of the Elks both in Attleboro and Bradenton, Florida lodges. He was also a member of the American Legion.
Jack is survived by his loving wife Joan (Sylvester) Soper, along with his children John and his wife Angela of Wiscasset, Raymond Soper of Boston, Massachusetts, Margaret Cordeiro (and her late husband Al) of North Providence Rhode Island, and Carolyn McKearney and her husband David of North Dighton, Massachusetts. Jack was the devoted grandfather to Elishia Soper and Hannah McKearney and was the great-grandfather to Hayley Frame.
Jack also leaves behind a brother Robert Soper and his wife Jan, sisters the late Marcia (Soper) Legg and Patricia (Soper) DeMayo and her husband Ronald. Jack also leaves behind numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and life-long friends. He will be especially missed by his four-legged grand dogs, Boss, Cocco and Moses.
There will be a graveside service for Jack in Wiscasset at the Greenlawn Cemetery on Rumerill Road on May 20 at 1 p.m. In addition a memorial service will be held on June 3, 2017 at the Rehoboth Congregational Church, 139 Bay State Road in Rehoboth, Massachusetts at 11 a.m.
