LCHA lecture by Deane Van Dusen March 5
The final presentation of Lincoln County Historical Association’s 2017 Winter Lecture Series will take place Sunday, March 5. Deane Van Dusen will present "New England Country Arts; a Collector’s Journey."
Van Dusen has been collecting New England folk art since the 1970s. While in high school and college he was employed at Fruitlands Museum in Harvard, Massachusetts giving guided tours and assisting in the first cataloging of the Museum’s Picture Gallery. He has restored two 18th century residential structures, one of which houses and displays his collection of traditional folk art.
Van Dusen has specialized in researching and collecting New England paint decorated furniture circa 1800-1850 with emphasis on Maine examples. He is also an avid collector of New England textiles, redware, decoys, family records, folk carvings and portraits. He is a practicing landscape architect and a graduate of the University of Massachusetts where he holds both undergraduate and master's degrees.
LCHA’s winter lectures are held on Sundays at 1 p.m. in the Communications Building behind the County Court House in Wiscasset. Coffee and pastries will be served. A donation of $5 is appreciated.
