Lincoln County Republicans meeting - Aug. 23
On Wednesday, Aug. 23, 6 p.m. at Safe Harbor Church, 50 Mill St., Waldoboro, on behalf of Maine Affordable Energy, strategist Lauren LePage will present the rationale for the group opposing Question 3.
Maine voters will face numerous referendum questions on the November ballot. Question 3 will ask Maine voters whether or not they would like to approve a plan to seize Maine’s electric grid and create a government controlled electric utility. This referendum would require the new "quasi-governmental power company” - Pine Tree Power - to seize the assets of CMP and Versant through eminent domain. Under the U.S. Constitution, this seizure requires just compensation, which means ratepayers will be on the hook for a massive debt totaling up to $13.5 billion. That debt would result in higher taxes, cuts to critical services and an even higher electric bill.
