Local legislative district now No. 45
New boundary lines were drawn for 151 state House of Representatives and 35 Senate districts Sept. 29. But on the Boothbay peninsula not a lot changed. The local house district still serves Boothbay, Boothbay Harbor, Southport, Edgecomb, Westport Island and part of South Bristol. But all house districts’ numbers changed. The district currently represented by Holly Stover, D-Boothbay, goes from District 88 to 45.
Maine House of Representatives supported the proposal 110-10 and the Senate voted 31-0 last week in approving the Apportionment Committee’s proposal for redrawing legislative districts based on the 2020 U.S. Census.
Stover reported her district’s population had approximately 500 fewer voters. She was pleased with the commission’s proposal, with one exception. Since 2010, South Bristol has been separated into two House legislative districts. “It was critical in the reapportionment process that South Bristol be recognized and represented as one municipality with one Representative,” she said.
On the senate side, District 13 still serves all of Lincoln County along with Washington in Knox County and Windsor in Kennebec. On Oct. 3, state Sen. Chloe Maxmin, D-Nobleboro, reported the legislature changed all the house district numbers, but kept the senate’s the same. “No changes in my district. All the same towns and the same number,” she said.
