LincolnHealth was pleased to present Waldoboro resident Kathryn Genthner, RN, with the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses. This award was created in 1999 to recognize those who go above and beyond to provide exemplary care for their patients. What makes this award so special to many is the nominations come from former patients.

Genthner’s many nominators not only spoke of her clinical expertise, but of her warmth, patience, compassion and dedication.

“Katy took care of my fears and made my hospital stay much more pleasant,’’ one of her patients wrote. “She has a bright, upbeat way about her that uplifted my spirits. She anticipated my needs and worked hard to provide for them.”

Another wrote: “Katy was so wonderful with my mom from start to finish. She smiles in a way that makes you feel confident and like you’re in good hands. She is kind, compassionate and just all around wonderful.”

An impromptu celebration took place last month. Katy’s husband, three sons and her mom joined her ‘work’ family at the recognition ceremony.
