Lorraine E. Hodgdon
Lorraine Emerson Hodgdon passed peacefully, with loving family by her side, May 18, 2019 following a short illness. Her and her husband, Stanley J. Hodgdon of Trevett, just celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary together with their large family.
Born December 11, 1933, she grew up on Barters Island and graduated from Boothbay Harbor High School class of 1952. Having spent most of her life on the Boothbay peninsula, Lorraine was extremely active in the Boothbay region community and served for decades on many boards and associations. She was a life member of The Order of the Eastern Stars. She was also heavily involved in the historical society, Cemetery Association, Barters Island Community Center, St. Andrews Hospital Auxiliary, the original Boothbay Community Association and one of the first volunteers on the original Boothbay ambulance service.
An avid baker, she was often cooking and donating her pies and cookies to these associations, fundraisers and for her family. She and Stanley also maintained an impressive vegetable garden that they cared for together. Family was everything to Lorraine and anyone of her immediate or extended family members knew they could stop in anytime for a chat and a cookie. Researching her genealogy was a beloved hobby and she was able to search her ancestry to Scotland, which she enjoyed visiting.
Lorraine leaves behind four children: Capt. Glenn W. Hodgdon and wife Kim of Southport, Rhonda L. Robinson and husband Richard of Sanbornton, New Hampshire, Dana S. Hodgdon and wife Cathy of Southport and Jennifer B. Gaudette and husband Stephen also of Southport. She was known as “Grammy Gadget” to grandchildren Holly Morris, Patrick Robinson, Lindsey Sarvas, Katlin Smirnioudis and Madison Gaudette. She also has seven great-grandchildren that brought her much joy; Amelya, Noah, Decker, Sofia, Colton, Penelope and Elias. She is also survived by her younger sister, Thelma Gagne, and countless very dear nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Willie and Bessie Emerson Dyer, and siblings Manton Emerson, Samuel Emerson, Florence Barter and James Albion Emerson.
A celebration of life will be held at Hall Funeral Home in Boothbay on Friday, May 24 at 10 a.m. with a reception to follow at Barters Island Community Hall.
The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations in Lorraine’s name can be made to Barters Island Community Association or Boothbay Region Historical Association.
