Mae’s Café & Bakery hosts Loughridge art show
Mae’s Café & Bakery in Bath presents “From Smutty Nose to Hurricane Hole,” an exhibit of original artwork by South Bristol painter Sally Loughridge, June 1 through September 30. The exhibit includes over 40 land and seascapes in oil and soft pastel.
Loughridge's work has been shown several times at Mae's Cafe. In 2011, she was part of a small group show, "Monhegan Perspectives IV;” in 2008 Sally invited the Kennebec Estuary Land Trust (KELT) to collaborate with her on an exhibit of paintings she created of the estuary through explorations by car, foot, and boat; and in 2006 Sally was part of a four person show at Mae's, "The Color of Light."
"From Smutty Nose to Hurricane Hole" presents a wide range of paintings of Maine, a state Loughridge has come to love over the 17 years she has lived here year-round. Exhibiting widely in the Midcoast for over 15 years, she paints natural scenes that resonate emotionally and visually with her. Loughridge is particularly drawn to patterns and shifts of light and shadow, whether falling on blueberry barrens, rock formations, or intersections of sky and sea.
"I hope that my paintings stir emotion, memory, or anticipation in viewers," said Loughridge, "and reminds them of the power and preciousness of the natural beauty that surrounds us."
Her artwork can be regularly seen at Pemaquid Art Gallery, Mast Cove Galleries in Kennebunkport, Tidemark Gallery in Waldoboro, and Archipelago in Rockland.
