Main Street Pier getting electric meters
The Wiscasset select board March 3 approved installing electrical submetering on the Main Street, or Creamery, Pier and approved a few changes to the pier policy and vendor application.
Carleton Electric, Inc. of Dresden was hired to do the electrical work installing eight electric meters for $4,970. That and another $1,600 needed for minor deck repairs will come from the waterfront account. Selectmen’s Chairman Judy Colby suggested the town retain one electrical meter for its use. It was decided the town would share the one provided for the Chamber of Commerce building.
Peter Wells of Federal Street provided a sketch of the pier at the lower end of Main Street opposite the railroad tracks. The sketch showed planned seasonal vendor spaces, the largest of which Sprague’s Lobster occupies.
Wells said the Waterfront Committee’s pier plan placed the vendor buildings around the pier’s perimeter allowing room for patron seating and walking to enjoy the river view.
During the public comment portion of the agenda, Kim Dolce of Fort Hill Street asked the select board’s help in resolving a disagreement with the Code Enforcement Officer to operate a not-for-profit at her home. Town Manager John O’Connell said Dolce’s complaint and related documentation had been turned over to the town attorney.
Appointments included Canny Cahn to the Appearance of the Town Committee and Carla Brooke Dickstein to the Comprehensive Plan Committee.
The board renewed a liquor license for Carla Chapman, dba The Cubby Hole at 213 West Alna Road and approved a new liquor license to Chandler Sowden, dba In a Silent Way, LLC at 65 Main St. Amendments to the town’s shoreland zoning and historical preservation ordinances will be included on the warrant for the annual June town meeting. And the board adopted a state-mandated first responder policy protecting fire and ambulance personnel from employer disciplinary action while responding to emergency calls.
