The Maine Art Gallery on Warren Street in Wiscasset will reopen in the spring of 2017 with exciting programs designed to promote and preserve the fine arts. A newly formed steering committee will resume the mission of the non-profit gallery that first opened in the historic Wiscasset Academy 62 years ago.

The enthusiastic committee has been meeting for several months and recently elected a new board of directors. Committee members include local artist and educator Mat O'Donnell who, after discovering seasoned artists exhibiting at the Maine Art Gallery, was inspired to build a studio in Wiscasset to begin a new chapter in his art journey. Another member, John Lorence, has been involved in the Maine Art Gallery from early on and is very happy to lend his expertise. Others on the committee are part of the Wiscasset art scene or just want to see the venerable facility thrive. 

A showing of works by students from local schools is planned for April, followed by an exhibit of the works of the gallery's founder, Mildred Burrage. A plein air art event will be held in August and a series of juried art shows will be held throughout the summer season.

The Maine Art Gallery is a non-profit organization dedicated to the advancement and preservation of the fine arts of painting, sculpture and graphic arts through exhibitions, lectures, demonstrations and educational programs for children and adults.
