Maine Artists Gallery call for artists for 'Illustrated Passages'
The written word can convey ideas, tell stories, describe images and express emotions – so can art. Humans were telling stories by drawing images on cave walls long before writing them down on stone tablets. They say, “A picture is worth a thousand words”... but, what if you combine words and pictures?
This year, the Maine Art Gallery's popular exhibit, “Illustrated Passages,” will be juried by artist and author Sandra Dutton (www.sandradutton.com). Entries are now open at www.maineartgallery.org. The deadline for submissions is August 10, selection will be on August 11. The exhibit will be open from August 27 through September 22.
Select any artwork you have done. Start with your title or the main element in the piece. For example, if it is trees, Google “quotations about trees” and keep reading until you find a quote that sums up what you expressed in the piece that then becomes the title of the submitted work. This exhibit is very popular with viewers because of the quotations used.
An opening reception will be held on August 29.
The gallery is located at 15 Warren Street in Wiscasset and is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
