Maine Lobstering Union announces Boothbay Harbor meeting
Local lobstermen are invited to attend an informational meeting on the proposed Maine Lobstering Union at the Dockside Grill restaurant at Cap'n Fish's Motel, Atlantic Avenue, Boothbay Harbor on Monday, May 13 at 6 p.m. The restaurant will be offering food and beverages at “lobsterman's prices,” according to Mark Brewer, who will be representing the Maine Lobstering Union.
According to Brewer, the idea for a Maine Lobstering Union was introduced at the 2013 Maine Fishermen's Forum in late February by a group of Vinalhaven lobstermen who attended a training session on unionizing, sponsored by International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers in Maryland in February.
According to its brochure, the Maine Lobstering Union would work to ensure “Quality of Life, the highest quality, sustainable lobster for consumers, and job security for Maine's working communities.”
For more information, call Brewer at 207-350-6625, Jim Alexander, 207-751-3878, or Joel Pitcher, 207-380-1883.
