Maine Photography Show entry deadline Jan. 26
It’s last call for Maine photographers planning to enter the Boothbay Region Art Foundation’s 13th annual Maine Photography Show. All entries must be submitted by midnight on Friday, Jan. 26. To be eligible, shutterbugs must be full or part-time residents of Maine. No original art will be accepted.
Each person may enter up to three photographs which can be mixed among the categories of Color, B & W, and this year’s special theme, “Remnants.” There is also a Student category for those 18 and under. Students may choose any theme or style that best defines their skill.
All entry photos must be in jpeg format and must be submitted digitally. A 300 dpi resolution is suggested with the widest dimension 1800 pixels. Entries must be submitted using the entry form at https://mainephotographyshow.org. Entry fee: $10 per photo. All work must be for sale.
Photographers of accepted work will be notified by mail with further instructions on where and when to deliver the originals for exhibition.
This year’s juror is renowned Rockport-based photographer Peter Ralston. Each year the MPS committee tries to come up with a theme relative to the expertise of the juror. One of the photo galleries on Ralston’s website, www.ralstongallery.com, is called remnants. All of the subjects in the photos harken back to days gone by, they capture life in Maine and call our attention to those elements that we are in danger of losing. Think remnants of the past.
Ralston is also the co-founder of the Island Institute that endeavors to support and preserve the island and coastal communities of Maine. As a photographer, Ralston’s images have been in magazines and books to television to galleries and museums. This should be one amazing 13th annual show.
The Art Foundation awards cash prizes for the first place photos in each category and Best In Show at a closed awards ceremony held the night before the opening. Businesses and individuals sponsor the awards ranging from $35 to the $500 Best In Show designation.
The opening reception and awards ceremony is slated for Friday, April 6 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. The Maine Photography Show run is April 7 through May 5.
