The Maine State Aquarium will host a Boothbay Harbor Region Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours on Wednesday, June 11 from 5 to 7 p.m. The event will take place at the Maine State Aquarium, Department of Marine Resources, 194 McKown Point Road, West Boothbay Harbor.

This year, the Maine State Aquarium celebrates the 20th season of operation in its current facility. As a showplace for Gulf of Maine species, the aquarium’s interactive exhibits and knowledgeable staff provide unparalleled educational opportunities for all who pass through its doors. The rocky shore setting houses regional fish and invertebrates, while the ever-popular touch tank, shark tank, and interactive exhibits invite visitors to touch and learn. Last winter, local artist Bob McKay painted a beautiful mural behind the 20-foot-long touch tank that depicts regional people, places, and things. Come and experience the Maine State Aquarium.

During the Business After Hours, Education Director Elaine Jones will briefly speak about the aquarium, its exhibits and its programs. Educators will provide information and assistance at the touch tanks, touch screens and lobster exhibit and aquarists will provide a behind-the-scenes tour.

In keeping with the theme of Maine’s marine life, lobster, crab, clam, shrimp and salmon appetizers will be served, as well as several non-seafood platters. Be sure to bring your business cards to be entered into a drawing to win one of several door prizes, including two family memberships of unlimited visits and two free trips for two to attend the Burnt Island Living Lighthouse program. Every person in attendance will receive a one day pass for two to the aquarium.

The Boothbay Harbor Region Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours are open to members and non-members, and everyone from the business community is encouraged to participate. The event is complimentary to chamber members and $10 per person for non-members which goes to support a stipend for our summer intern. We have several Business After Hours scheduled so far and welcome more with an average attendance of 80 people.
