Maine State Aquarium to open June 11
We are excited to announce the Maine State Aquarium opens on Wednesday, June 11! Our hours are Wednesday through Sunday, 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. We are closed on federal holidays. You can find our admission fees and tips to make your experience enjoyable on our website.
In addition to the aquarium experience that includes a variety of tanks, hands-on exhibits, and interactive displays, your admission now includes access to our brand-new Learning Lab, a hands-on space right next to the aquarium! This year’s feature? The Sharks of the Gulf of Maine — meet these fascinating creatures and learn how DMR researchers are tracking them in real time.
We are also excited to announce that school field trips will resume. Reservations are available for the end of May, beginning of June, and middle of September. Students and teachers are free! Find all the details including how to register on our website.
To make all this possible, we are hiring several paid seasonal positions – aquarium aides, aquarium educators, and a fulltime cashier. Aides staff our exhibits and provide talks about the Gulf of Maine and DMR research. Educators help plan and lead field trips; they also staff the exhibits with aides. The Admissions Attendant checks visitors in and staffs our new aquarium shop. Positions range from three to six months with housing on a first-come, first-serve basis. In addition to paid staff, we are recruiting volunteers, who have been the backbone of DMR’s Education Division for many years.
