Make it a good one
For those of us who are not fans of snow, or snowy roads in particular, it’s been a good fall. No surprise October storms and no snow at all that I saw until Monday morning, and even then, just a coating.
I don’t need snow for Christmas. I liked last year’s, which found our family playing croquet and chatting with other families on their snow-free, holiday walks. Two in a row might be a reach, but it doesn’t hurt to hope. And for the snow fans, who can’t wait to ski, skate, roll and build in it, you will most likely have plenty of opportunity.
Now to something we can probably all agree on. The best holiday is a safe one. Drive for the conditions, no matter how well-tuned your vehicle or how new your tires. Rushing is foolhardy, whether behind the wheel or on a ladder stringing lights. And be safe with the leftovers. Food poisoning should not be anyone’s holiday memory.
That out of the way, have a great time this holiday season! From Thanksgiving to the holidays of our religious beliefs, and onto New Year’s, shop locally, marvel at the lights in our neck of the woods and Boothbay if you get there; on Dec. 3, take in the tree lighting on the Wiscasset Common and clap for the student-singers; and wherever you are on each holiday this season, when most businesses are closed and emergency workers and road crews remain ready to interrupt their holiday to keep us safe, wherever you are then, I hope it’s right where you want to be, and that you are remembering those who made your life special, and can’t be there, and that you are hopeful for what can still be.
