Mary A. Matthews, 91, of Boothbay Harbor died Aug. 26, 2018 at Sedgewood Commons in Falmouth.

Mary was born May 31, 1927 in Boothbay Harbor to Hall Gray Potter and Alice Stella (Dickinson) Potter. Mary grew up in Newcastle and graduated from Lincoln Academy in the class of 1944. She married Wendell Matthews in 1946.

She worked as a cook at the Boothbay Grammar School and later at Boothbay Region High School for over 30 years. She was a member of the Crescent Chapter #54 Order of the Eastern Star for over 50 years. Mary enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

She was predeceased by her husband, Wendell Matthews, who died in 2001.

She is survived by her sons, Bruce Matthews and his wife Beth of Atkinson, New Hampshire and Larry Matthews of Otisfield; brother, Elmer Potter and his wife Beverly of Edgecomb; four grandchildren, Tyler Matthews of Litchfield, New Hampshire, Adrienne DeSantis and her husband Shaun of Everett, Massachusetts, Chris Matthews of Raymond, New Hampshire, and Craig Matthews of Thomaston; and several great-grandchildren

Friends are welcome to join the family for a time of visitation from 10 a.m. to noon on Aug. 30 at Hall’s of Boothbay, 975 Wiscasset Road, Boothbay. A private graveside service will be held at Oceanview Cemetery in Boothbay.
