May 22 update: 1,948 statewide COVID-19 cases
AUGUSTA — The Maine CDC has updated its list, May 22, of COVID-19 cases in the state of Maine.
Today, there are 1,948 confirmed and probable COVID-19 cases across the state, including 1,749 confirmed cases and 199 probable cases.
Across the state, 1,192 people have recovered from COVID-19, while 76 people have died. The number of people hospitalized, at some point during their illness, across the state stands at 240.
Looking at hospital COVID-19 data, there are currently 45 hospitalized, including 21 in critical care and 12 on a ventilator. There are 164 available critical care beds out of 392 total and 248 available ventilators of 318 total and 439 alternative ventilators.
By sex, 1,008 females have tested positive in the state and 940 males have tested positive.

The below cases represents the number of full-time Maine residents who have tested positive for COVID-19, according to the Maine CDC.
“This is likely an underrepresentation of the true number of cases in Maine since not all individuals are being tested,” the Maine CDC says. “For individuals not considered to be at high risk, medical providers are currently advised to diagnose COVID-19 based on symptoms.”
