Richard D. Lord
Richard Daniel "Dick" Lord, a beloved husband, father, and esteemed member of the community, passed away on Nov. 12, 2024, at the Gossnell Hospice House in Scarborough.
Dick was born on Sept. 13, 1941, to Daniel and Eva (Dawe) Lord.
He was a true Mainer, hailing from Bath, where he completed his education at Morse High School before pursuing his studies at Nasson College in Portland.
Richard dedicated much of his professional life to the world of banking, beginning as a manager-trainee, right out of college, at Key Bank (formerly Depositors Trust). In 1990, Dick bravely left corporate American to begin a new career as a commercial real estate appraiser, establishing RDL Appraisal, focusing predominantly on the valuable hospitality waterfront properties of the Midcoast region. His diligent and dedicated work in this field earned him great respect, and his services were sought out by many.
In 1988, Dick married Elizabeth (Beth) Lord, originally from Patten, Maine. Dick greatly enjoyed the hubbub of Beth’s family, especially since he had grown up with no siblings. Dick would always refer to Beth as his soulmate and their deep love for one another, was admired by many.
Remembered as "a good man" by those who knew him best, Richard's kindness and nurturing spirit extended beyond his work life. His love for animals, particularly cats and owls, was undeniable, but it was his golden retrievers that held a special place in his heart.
An active member of the Commercial Real Estate Appraisers community, Richard had an affinity for boating, walking his beloved dogs, creating a haven for local birds and was also an Eagle Scout. For those who had the privilege of knowing him, Dick will always be cherished for his altruistic nature and his willingness to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.
In 2015, Dick and Beth found solace in the tranquility of Boothbay, where they basked in the simple joys of life.
Richard is predeceased by his parents and his aunt and uncle, Ken and Betty Lord. Richard is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Elizabeth Lord of Boothbay; daughter Elizabeth Lord Powers of York; son Richard Lord of Harpswell and grandchildren Kate Lord and Ben Lord. Also, sister-in law, Kathy Howes of Patten and a very close sister/friend, Alison Webb of Boothbay.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, Nov. 20 for Richard at Hall Funeral Home, 975 Wiscasset Road, Boothbay, at 1 p.m. with a reception following the service.
