Southport Memorial Library welcomes two Artists for the Month for May, June Virginia Forrest with Judy Nixon.
Wiscasset-based artist Virginia Forrest works in watercolor, gouache, acrylics and oil. Her paintings of Maine coastal scenes and landscapes incorporate her passion for summer gardens. Boats in the harbor or laundry floating on the line are often part of the view.
Minoring in painting in college, Virginia continued her passion through private study, workshops and lessons. She has worked with a wide range of Maine artists including: Lillian Hale, John Lawrence, Jan Kilburn, Monique Parry, Sandra Dunn, Abby Williams, Dan Cory and Julie Babb.
Virginia has exhibited, and is a member of, the Boothbay Region Art Foundation, Maine Art Gallery in Wiscasset and the River Arts Gallery of Damariscotta.
Judy Nixon moved to Bristol from central Massachusetts in 1999, and after having worked in the accounting field for many years, she was very appreciative of having the freedom to explore her creative side.
Although her primary medium is watercolor, Judy also enjoys painting in acrylics and gouache, using Asian brush, and creating monotypes. Some of the images in her paintings are used for note cards and calendars, and small reproductions.
Judy’s love of nature inspires her to paint local scenes - including the rugged coastline, quiet harbors, inland waterways, country fields and forests - and capturing the essence of everyday objects in a still life. Light and color are important to Judy in her art and she is always keen on learning new techniques and experimenting with new subject matter.
Judy Nixon is a member of Pemaquid Group of Artists at Lighthouse Park in Pemaquid, River Arts in Damariscotta, Boothbay Region Art Foundation in Boothbay Harbor,
