Pastor Sarah Foulger enumerated the casualties throughout the history of U.S. warfare as the moving Memorial Day commemoration stood at attention at the Memorial on the library green on Monday, May 28. She focused in on the casualties of the Vietnam War, naming three combat deaths from the Boothbay peninsula.
Listed as one of the older survivors attending was World War ll Naval aviator Walter “Scotty” Scott, who trained pilots in Penascola, Florida. Scott is now a resident in an area assisted living facility but wishes to return to his family home in Boothbay Harbor if he can find in-home care. He does not qualify for veteran’s assistance because his injuries were too minor, according to a family member.
