Michael J. Poulin
Michael J. Poulin, 61, died unexpectedly on July 21, 2017.
He was born Sept. 27, 1955, in Augusta, the son of F. Donald and Margaret (O'Connell) Poulin.
He graduated from Cony High School in 1973. During high school he worked part-time at a local radio station, experiencing what would become a job he loved. He pursued this interest and traveled to Boston to experience large city life and further his broadcasting skills. Augusta was in his blood though, and he returned to the city he cherished after a short time.
Mike shared his passion for Augusta along with Boothbay Harbor. He was a well-known and favored bartender in both locations with a large clientele for many years. When he reentered the world of broadcasting he gained a faithful following of listeners in this venue also. A favorite of many was his daily Facebook post of several lines of a different song each day to start the work day off.
Mike's greatest pleasure and one he expressed to many as being his greatest accomplishment in life was working with the clients of Gallant Therapy Services. He brought a natural skill level to this work and found it extremely rewarding. By assisting those maneuvering the challenges of today's day-to-day life, Mike showed a compassionate, caring side. His clients loved him.
Mike remained a true Red Sox and Patriots fan his entire life, through good times and bad. The Patriots were doing well and he felt they didn't need his advice on coaching. The Red Sox were sometimes a different story and he had plenty of advice to share about coaching.
Many knew Mike as witty, sarcastic, always with a joke, friendly, give-his-shirt-to-you type of guy. He was also a caring, compassionate, thoughtful man who would do whatever he could to help those he cherished, and there were many.
Mike is survived by a sister, Kathryn; her husband, Stephen; one niece, two nephews; numerous cousins; and all the many people and the city that he loved — Augusta.
A Celebration of Life for Mike will be held at Le Club Calumet, Saturday, July 29, from 2-5 p.m. A committal service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 5 at St. Mary's Cemetery, in Manchester.
