The Mill Road
I like to drive from Wiscasset via the Mill Road, drawn by a good friend's awesome brewed coffee and great sticky buns, and because it's calming.
For me, the Mill Road is a very peaceful route. It's winding, rolling, quiet, wooded and away from the zipping impatience of Route 27.
There's a great cove, split by a causeway, along the way – just before Parson's Creek, maybe half a mile before the State road.
I always stop there and look around. In fact, I'm sorry to say, when I was appreciating this week's view, aka, “fotoz from the car,” a very patient snow removal vehicle and its driver graciously idled behind me while I gazed. Very thoughtful and considerate.
Sometime, when you're not in a hurry to get home, jump off Route 1 after the Wiscasset bridge and wind along the Eddy Road in Edgecomb to Cross Point Road.
The Mill Road is a left off Cross Point; it comes out just north of Edgecomb Potters on Route 27. Of course, I'm sure everyone knows all about this route back to Boothbay.
Respectfully, I will not share the source of my special coffee and stickies, but I will all but guarantee an enjoyable drive.
