Molnlycke deal clears state hurdle
The state has approved Wiscasset's tax deal with Molnlycke, linked to the Gothenburg, Sweden-based company's planned expansion of its Rynel plant on Twin Rivers Drive.
Wiscasset voters passed the deal on January 14.
A February 25 letter, from the Maine Department of Economic and Community Development to Wiscasset's interim town manager Don Gerrish, states that the department has reviewed and approved the arrangement that amends one of Wiscasset's older tax deals.
The expansion project is still on track for an April 1 ground-breaking, James Detert, Molnlycke's business development director for the Americas, said March 6.
The 32,000-square foot add-on has been projected to cost at least $5.5 million and add 10 to 30 employees to the wound care products maker's local workforce of 70; it will house Brennan Medical, a St. Paul, Minnesota-based company that Molnlycke picked up in 2012.
Design work continues, Detert said. So does the work toward buying the plant that will nearly double in size. Molnlycke has been leasing it from Ferry Road Development.
